Review
Sessions Health, launched in 2019, is a relative newcomer to the behavioral health EHR marketplace. It appears to have taken inspiration from some of the best implementations of other systems to give it a head start in providing a wide range of functionality. Off to a solid start, it offers some refinements that are difficult to find in other systems while other features are not nearly as robust as the leading competitors.
Key features of Sessions Health include an intuitive client management system with comprehensive records, customizable templates, and secure messaging. The platform supports integrated telehealth sessions, automated billing, and real-time insurance eligibility checks. It also boasts a user-friendly client portal for scheduling and secure communication, as well as two-way Google Calendar synchronization. Some standout features include the ability to color-code appointments, customizable telehealth appointment emails including flexibility for external apps, and the particularly intriguing “Session Bridging” which allows therapists to send clients a question to answer, or prompt to explore prior to their next session.
While I find there to be some finicky places in the Sessions Health interface (i.e. a bit of a learning curve to find some specific routine buttons/tasks), the overall user experience is very friendly and easy to adjust to. It’s obvious, in some areas, that Sessions is a newer application that is still developing. For example, while they offer nice templates for treatment plans, some of the information has to be manually entered, vs. being “pre-filled” or entered through checkboxes or pulldowns. That said, their pricing is currently significantly lower than the competition.
Sessions Health is a robust, flexible, and affordable option for practices that prioritize budget over extensive refinement in features.
